WILL BRON
Reserved and introverted by nature, 11-year-old Will has been sinking deeper inside himself since the death of his younger sister, Maddie. Finding no comfort in his broken parents, Will wanders through his adolescent agony, left to confide in his faithful dog, Nostradamus, and his kind but cantankerous neighbor, Mary.
SARAH BRON
Sarah has just buried her daughter, Maddie. If she could’ve crawled into the grave beside her little girl, she would have. Despite the sickening emptiness in her heart, it seems to no longer hold room for her husband, Brian, or her son, Will. She drifts through her days, lingering on the pervasive thought that she would do anything to have her daughter back.
BRIAN BRON
A handyman once confident that he could fix anything, it seems the one thing Brian can’t put back together is his family. Now, feeling powerless in the face of his wife’s spiraling depression, his son’s growing despondency, and his own crumbling sanity, he desperately grasps at any way to restore them to how they were before Maddie’s death.
THE GIRL
The Girl’s discovery is as strange as her gaunt appearance and her almost catatonic state. While Will cannot ignore the striking resemblance to his dead sister, he also senses something primal, unknowable, and dangerous about the Girl. And as her hold on his parents increases, so does his certainty that they have welcomed something unspeakable into the family.
MARY TILLARY
Living in the back wood boonies, Mary’s course exterior and sharp tongue bely her worldly wisdom and her capacity for compassion. When Will wanders onto her property, she immediately recognizes both a kindred spirit and an immature cry for help. Their fast friendship is not something Mary wants or needs, but she can’t help but care for the boy.
DENNY WALTON
Local sheriff and unofficial welcoming party, Denny disarms the Brons with an awe sucks approach, while his sharp senses and methodical mind catalog and analyze this new addition to their sleepy community. Well aware of what brings them to his town, his sincere sympathy comes with a watchful eye.
TEDDY VANDERMEER
A buzz of frantic energy, Teddy has no time for social graces, if he were even aware of them. At just 10 years old, Teddy is as well-known as he is intrusive, and to the locals, his earnestness makes him not just tolerable, but endearing.
